On Friday, 50 Egyptian women marching in Cairo against sexual assault were attacked by a mob of men. Unclear whether planned or spontaneous, the mob broke through barriers of men protecting the female demonstrators, hurling slurs and fists. Some women reported being groped and having men shove their hands into their clothes. The reaction by fundamentalist men displays the great need for these protests to continue. Assaults are a great concern for the women seeking liberty in Egypt, and have been frequent since the mass protests first began, not only by citizens, but also the military. Promising to see men who understand the threat, and are willing to help protect the women of Cairo in their journey for freedom and respect as equal citizens.
